What our students say about studying with us:

"I found the knowledge that I gained was of immediate use when a company asked me about how they should handle their currency transactions, to enable them to make a competitive bid for a European Contract. I was able to provide some insight as to their options, and they were both grateful for the advice and surprised at the level of specific knowledge available from my organisation."

Terry Ferguson, Level 4 Diploma in International Trade

"The MSc was a great grounding for the job I secured on graduation. I’m a logistical coordinator for pan-European shipping line, Samksip, dealing mostly with containers. The programme provided an overview of every aspect of international trade, how multinational logistics companies work – and the transport choices available to them. Specifically, it helped me focus on my interest, by becoming familiar with import and export documentation as well as customs clearance for containers, which are both integral parts of my job."

Nikolaos Tsitlaidis, MSc in International Trade, Strategy and Operations

"I have worked in the public sector for 19 years and have moved around the country enjoying various roles.

Since undertaking a review of Tax Compliance, I have been fortunate to take on the role of the Departmental Customs Compliance and Policy subject matter expert. I wanted to gain a recognised qualification to assist me in implementing new Customs Policy and Processes and begin driving efficiencies.

The IOE Level 5 Diploma in World Customs Compliance & Regulations course content could not have been a better fit. Each module was directly linked to my work. The course has helped me to develop internal policy and processes and oversee the implementation of compliance regimes for the department and work with delegated points of contact across the business to provide guidance and embed best practice. I look forward to a challenging and fulfilling career enabled by the mentoring and support by the IOE."

Charlotte Prescott, Diploma in World Customs Compliance & Regulations

"I worked for Mizuno Corporation in the purchasing and logistics department. Initially my job was to assis with both purchasing and import compliance but I found the procedural discipline of the customs complinance role captivating. With the onset of the UCC, my role involved 'fact finding' for my business, and it was through this I was asked if I wanted to complete the IOE Level 5 Diploma in World Customs Compliance & Regulations. I started the qualification and it opened my eyes to the wider world of customs.

The knowledge the course gave me allowed me to seek a new career path. I now work in the Customs and International Trade team at Grant Thornton and work with a range of unique clients who I would not have been able to work with had I not moved. Now I have completed the qualification, I am looking to continue to develop myself and build on the excellent grounding the diploma has given me."

Michael Alexander, Diploma in World Customs Compliance & Regulations

"My career in management began in the Civil Service in 1985 working for the then Department of Health and Social Security. I obtained a Level 4 NVQ in Management, which later opened up the chance to take a Master's Degree in Security Management.

The MSc was pivotal to my recruitment as Managing Director at Jointline Products (Lincoln) Ltd. in 2004, a highly successful 'small business', supplying a niche product into the export market to more than fifty countries worldwide.

Despite the business's proven competence in export, my own curiosity to learn more had already brought me to several 'dead ends' until I was put in touch with Sue Wright whose charisma and enthusiasm for trade and export reinvigorated my aspiration to learn more. She recommended the Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in International Trade with the IOE, which I took up immediately.

Jointline have been exporting for more than 80 years and internationalisation is the key to our success. We want to encourage other small companies by sharing the benefits that are to be had from international trade and this qualification will enable me to further that notion. I am proud to be able to promote my company's acumen and professionalism through this opportunity with the Institute of Export."

Jane Smith, Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in International Trade

"I have had a long career in international financial services, during which time I have been a founding equity partner of a company that won the Queen's Award for Exports.

I had reached the point where I wanted to bring to life one of my secret dreams - to develop an online niche fashion company. I explored various options and settled upon the IOE course as it would allow me to apply the academic theories of international trade to my business plan in the final Practical Global Trading module. The other modules allowed me to bring my answers to life by researching case studies on how the international logistics strategies have impacted a company's ability to internationalise and researching how foreign companies can target China's huge online market place.

The course has provided me with a helpful appreciation of how the multiple facets of an international business link, as well as an initial roadmap for my business. Also, I can now bore for Britain on Zara's supply chain!

I undertook my graduate degree and other professional qualifications in a pre-internet era, so I am able to appreciate how the internet helped to bring the course to life and made learning easier and fun."

"After 6 years of working with the Canadian International Development Agency, I joined the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service as a Trade Commissioner. Whilst I had the requisite skills for the job, I felt I needed a more solid international trade background. I started to look for a programme that would improve my understanding of trade regimes, and trade issues and found the Institute of Export's IOE Level 5 Diploma in International Trade to be the best fit to bridge my skills gap.

The programme itself was very flexible and the staff were easy to work with and quick to provide assistance. I completed the entire Diploma within 3 months which meant I got the background I needed to excel at my job much faster.

The knowledge gained from the programme, coupled with my experience working at policy and operations level for advancing businesses, now puts me in an advantageous position to contribute to initiatives that bolster international trade."
