This article was published before we became the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade on 10 July 2024, and this is reflected in references to our old brand and name. For more information about us becoming Chartered, visit our dedicated webpage on the change here.

The Institute has listened to members and clients by bringing our vibrant one-day courses – that give competitive advantage in export, import and international trade – to the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ and Britain’s manufacturing heartland.

Held in Manchester and Birmingham on a rolling schedule, from May to December and starting with a session on international documentation, they are:

International Documentation & Customs Compliance

A course which will equip your business with the knowledge you need to operate an effective and compliant export documentation process.

An Introduction to Exporting – Physical Goods

Essential for those starting out or considering starting a career or venture in international trade, the course provides an essential overview of all export processes.

Letters of Credit

A course that helps you find out all about the procedures and practical ways in which you can establish best practice in order to ensure payment every time.

UK & US Export Controls: A Basic Understanding

Examines the current UK export control legislation and gives valuable guidance for compliance with the legislation. Understanding how to comply with all the regulations is the first step to being profitable and resting easy at night!

The development gives the opportunity to acquire the skills and expertise they need to boost their export programmes closer to home. Fantastic feedback from our sessions in London, Peterborough and Glasgow has reinforced that attendees are maximising the benefits of being able to acquire this valuable knowledge and learning locally.

Their feedback chimes with our long-held belief that enhancing the UK’s export performance is something that must be done nationwide, rather than be a London-centric effort.

IOE Director General, Lesley Batchelor, said: “We have always been mindful that export is vital for the growth and prosperity of every region and have always had a flourishing presence in each one. This move truly brings a world of opportunities to people’s doorsteps.”

Among businesses whose staff have benefited from the courses to date, which are designed for enterprises of all sizes, are Waitrose, Barclays, Nissan and British Sugar.
