The IOE has lined up a panel of powerful speakers for a day long seminar in London on October 21, which will help businesses to forge ahead with their exporting.
Our event: “Exporting: If we keep doing what we’re doing….” runs from 10.00 – 17.00 at Gresham College, Barnard Inn’s Hall, Holborn.
The Institute’s chair Ian Taylor, and our Director General Lesley Batchelor OBE, will be joined by IOE Vice President Lord Empey, OBE, John Burbridge-King of Interchange Solutions Ltd, Bernadette Byrne of thebigword, lawyer Keith Arrowsmith, Nicholas Niggli from the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK and Peter Andrews from the Bank of England.
Lesley says: “It was Albert Einstein who coined the phrase: “if you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting the results you’ve been getting”. It’s been used by many business gurus in developing their ideologies, but never has it been more true than when applied to the future of international trade in the UK.
“At the event we will highlight the steps that exporters can take to develop their export strategy, embed professionalism in international trade – and maximise the wealth of opportunities available.”
Life peer, Lord Empey, OBE, who became Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment when the Northern Ireland Executive was formed in 1999, will focus on “UK export & its growth”.
John Burbridge-King, Founder and CEO of Interchange Solutions Ltd, a specialist in corporate reputation and risk management with an international business background, will highlight the implications of the Bribery Act on businesses.
Linguist Bernadette Byrne, Group Client Services Director at translations service agency thebigword, will present “£48bn in revenue lost due to bad language?” and lawyer Keith Arrowsmith, whose client portfolio has included international designers such as House of Holland and Tatty Devine, will explain the impact of Intellectual Property on international trade.
Nicholas Niggli, spent several years working at strategic levels for the World Trade Organization, and now leads a diplomatic team that represents, promotes and defends Switzerland’s economic, trade, finance, science and business interests in the United Kingdom. He will talk on “States as key economic actors: taking advantage of policy and trade opportunities in the field of Government Procurement”.
Peter Andrews, who joined the Bank of England in 1979 and became Agent for Greater London in 2007, will examine the prospects for the UK Economy over the next 2-3 years, and the IOE chair Ian Taylor will round off the day with closing remarks and a summing up of the key points and discussions.
Lesley Batchelor concludes: “This is a ‘must attend’ event for innovative businesses seeking to ramp up their exporting activities. We are delighted to have such high calibre speakers – all experts in their field – who will share up to date tips, guidance and insights with delegates.”
