The Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT) and the Bonded Warehousekeepers Association (BWA) have partnered to launch the first qualification on excise practice.
The new course, entitled ‘Level 3 Certificate in Excise Practices and Procedures’, is an essential qualification for anyone who wants to work in the field of excise warehousing, or for those who want to keep their knowledge and compliance up-to-date.
The BWA, founded in 1885, is the membership body for the bonded warehouse industry and works closely with warehousekeepers, logistical companies, drinks companies and HMRC to support their membership.
Qualification
This qualification is the first of its kind and aims to provide learners with the skills and knowledge required by employers in the excise arena.
It is ideal for individuals at the start of their professional journey in excise, as well as people currently working in the industry that wish to check and validate their knowledge and experience.
Any excise operators, with a team of experienced employees working in this arena, would also benefit from this course in order to maintain compliance and understand the rules and regulations of excise.
The learning outcomes include:
- Introduction to Excise
- Excise Movement Control System (EMCS)
- Approvals and authorisations
- Calculating excise duty
- Receipt of duty suspended goods (import & production)
- Storage of goods in an excise warehouse
- Removal of goods from an excise warehouse
‘New qualification’
Marco Forgione, Director General of the IOE&IT, said:
“In the increasingly complex regulatory environment of international trade it is essential that all those involved have the necessary skills, knowledge and tools.
“This innovative and fresh qualification is a chance to explore a crucial and often overlooked aspect of international trade.
“We look forward to working with the BWA on this new qualification and look forward to helping further professionalise the sector.”
Clive Brady, Chairman of the BWA, said:
“In launching this new excise qualification the BWA has achieved a long-standing goal and objective to drive up the level of knowledge and understanding within this highly controlled and regulated arena.
“Compliance to the HMRC rules and regulations is absolutely critical to any trader approved to run and operate a UK excise warehouse.
“However, up until now securing knowledge and an understanding of the requirements has been left with the trader to effectively self-teach. We are confident traders will now have access to a suit of learning modules that are not only relevant but provide a source of knowledge that will become invaluable to what they do and how they do it.
“We are extremely excited by this initiative and keen to deliver the first qualification in this arena and we hope will be the first of many we create.”
