Mark your calendars, because the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade’s annual MemberCon event is back for 2025.

This year, the focus is on giving members the practical insights and technical advice needed to protect their trade and expand their exports.

Heart of Yorkshire

Held in Aspire Leeds on 13 March, in the heart of the historic Yorkshire city, the event will feature talks by industry-leading figures, practical workshops and networking opportunities for anyone working in international trade.

Whether you need to improve your supply chain, navigate regulations or boost your exports, MemberCon25 will be a hugely important date in your diary.

Practical guidance

This year’s MemberCon is “designed specifically to support operational professionals in navigating the technical challenges of an ever-changing environment".

“Our goal is for every delegate to leave with practical insights and tools that they can immediately apply in their day-to-day work” says Sophie Tothill, head of membership at the Chartered Institute.

“MemberCon25 also provides a platform for delegates to share their perspectives on pressing political issues, with the feedback being relayed directly to decision-makers.

“We truly believe this is a one-of-a-kind event, which has been carefully designed with the unique needs of our profession at its core.”

Panels

This year's event will feature two ‘workstreams', giving attendees more options to hear topics that matter to them.

The first stream includes panels and talks on the regional benefits of international trade, how to handle post-Brexit customs procedures and understanding rules of origin.

There will also be a fireside chat with trade leaders looking at growth opportunities in the industry.

Workshops

Alongside the main stream of panels, there will be technical workshops focused on topics like the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM) and how to deal with incoming sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures.

The purpose of this, Tothill says, is to “support operational professionals with technical workshops”, and provide them with practical tips:

“This is the only conference where front-line trade professionals can get this kind of in-person advice and support.”

This event will also feature interactive policy discussions, where members can help shape how the Chartered Institute works with government and the policies it advocates on their behalf, as well as a session dedicated to maintaining sustainable trade practices.

Attendees can directly ask Chartered Institute experts questions and get answers directly on some of their pressing export and import questions.

Networking

Like the best conferences out there, the networking opportunities are what completes the day.

“The networking aspect is something we’re really excited about,” said Charlie Laycock, the Chartered Institute’s head of events.

“We’ve created a collaborative environment where attendees can network and engage in facilitated peer-to-peer discussions, exchanging best practices and case studies, and building professional connections.

“Customs and trade professionals need all the help they can get during these difficult times, and we’re hoping that MemberCon25 can be the place where they can find this.”
