As the new year gets underway, we welcome our new membership community lead, Jade Littlewood, to the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade. Bringing international trade experience that she honed in the world of corporate banking, Littlewood is primed to support members as we enter an uncertain year in international trade.
Members can also register for webinar sessions on safety and security (S&S) declarations and Digital Product Passports (DPPs) to get up to speed with upcoming EU regulatory changes, while business members can turn to our Technical Helpline.
Introducing our new membership community lead
The Chartered Institute is delighted to introduce Jade Littlewood as the new membership community lead. With over 17 years of experience in the banking sector, including seven years specialising in corporate banking with a focus on international trade, Jade brings a deep understanding of the challenges businesses face and the knowledge required to navigate today’s dynamic global trade environment.
Safety and security
With the third phase of the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM) imminent, shifting the focus from new documentation and checks for sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) goods to S&S declarations required on all EU imports, we’re offering a Lunchtime Learning webinar to get importers up to speed.
S&S declarations will be required on EU imports from 31 January. Already required on goods imported from the rest of the world (RoW), the webinar will cover the information required as part of the declarations and who is responsible for them.
Expert insight will be provided by the Chartered Institute’s Imports Advisory Practice lead Ilona Kawka, who wrote the organisation’s 2025 importing guide.
Held at the usual time of 12pm on 21 January, you can register for that one here.
Digital Product Passports
Another change affecting EU trade this year is the introduction of mandatory Digital Product Passports. Under the bloc’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), exporters will need to include information about each of their products’ “origin, materials, environmental impact and disposal recommendations”.
Members in the manufacturing sector can learn more about the new regulation and passport requirements for trading compliantly with EU under GPSR through a public webinar held next Thursday (23 January). This will be followed by two dedicated Lunchtime Learning sessions next month (13 and 19 February).
