Daniela Turiccki here explains the importance of export managers having trusted and demonstrable trade expertise, and outlines a new, ‘exciting opportunity’ for how people can gain this.

She was talking to the Daily Update ahead of a ‘Trade Taster’ session on 20 November showcasing a new MA degree for export managers from the Chartered Institute.

Navigating trade challenges

Trade professionals looking to take on senior positions within a business need to ensure they have demonstrable and trusted expertise in export, import, customs and supply chain processes.

This is because moving goods across borders comes with several legal and logistical challenges, particularly with the global regulatory framework becoming more complex and global shipping increasingly susceptible to crises, whether due to international conflicts or the effects of climate change.

Navigating these difficulties requires a high level of trade knowledge and skill, as well as a significant amount of business experience.

Trade leaders within businesses need to have a detailed understanding of regulations, a continually up-to-date knowledge of ongoing trends and changes in the supply chain, and a thorough understanding of trade and customs processes.

Trust in trade

Having this expertise is also important because it shows that you and your business can be trusted.

Trade, like any form of business, relies on relationships built on trust.

This includes trust that your goods will be delivered on time, trust that your processes are compliant with relevant rules and trust that you have properly mitigated any supply chain risks.

How to gain trust

Gaining trust in trade requires you to be able to clearly demonstrate your trade expertise and experience.

While the latter may take years of hard work within the industry, studying on business and trade qualifications from universities and bodies like the Chartered Institute is another avenue through which you can gain the expertise needed to thrive in global trade.

At our recent graduation ceremony at Mansion House in London, we celebrated the achievements of around 900 trade professionals who had taken the step to study on our courses and advance their careers in global trade.

These people are the future of trade – they will be the people who take on senior trade positions within businesses and they will be the people who power the supply chains of the future.

Exciting opportunity

There will be many people already working in an export department at a business who want to take their next step to become an export manager or lead.

It’s for this reason that we’re delighted to announce that we’ve designed a new Master’s Degree in Export Management and International Trade, alongside the Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi.

This new programme is an exciting opportunity for anyone involved in exporting that wants to take on more of a leadership role within a business.

It gives tomorrow’s export leaders the chance to gain demonstrable skills and knowledge, internationally recognised accreditation and ongoing professional development opportunities.

The first cohort of students will begin studying on the course in January and there is currently an early bird discount to enrol, running until 11 December.

Taster session

The Chartered Institute will be running a ‘taster session’ on 20 November in which we will run through the course structure and key modules, while also giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions about how the course could empower their careers.

You can sign up to the taster here, and if you have any questions about the new course, or any of the Chartered Institute’s other qualifications, please do get in touch via this email address.
